Day 1: Fly from Denver to Lima, Peru Note: Due to weather conditions and circumstances
beyond the control of Field Course Staff, certain
activities may be changed or done on different days in
the best interest of the group. Cancellation & Refund Policy: Generally, our Study Abroad tours cannot be
cancelled after the final registration date for a tour.
International services and reservations must be arranged and prepaid well in
advance; thus, very seldom are any cancellations allowed. CMC’s cancellation and
refund policy is dependent upon the cancellation and refund policy of our suppliers.
Again, cancellations and refunds are seldom allowed.
Our June 2002 Study Abroad adventure will combine a
rainforest ecology & archeology program in Peru with an
intensive Spanish program (directed by
Mary Ebuna) in Cusco, Peru.
Tentative Schedule: June 3 - June 23, 2002
Day 2: Tour of Lima and Anthropological Museums
Day 3: Fly to Cusco, Tour the City and Acclimate
Day 4: Visit Cusco Museums, Intro. Cultural and Spanish
Lessons
Day 5: Tour Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Tombomachay , and other
Cusco area ruins
Day 6: Bus tour through the Sacred Valley including Pisac
and Ollantoaytambo ruins
Day 7: Train through the Urubamba Valley and tour of
Machu Picchu ruins
Day 8: Tour Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes. Return
train to Cusco
DAY 9: Rest day
Day 10 thru 16: Manu Reserve rainforest ecology program. (Nights
spent in jungle lodges)
Day 10: Bus from Cusco to Posada San Pedro cloud forest.
Day 11: Continue to tropical lowland rainforest. From
Atalaya by motorized canoe along the Alto Madre de Dios
River to Boca Manu.
Days 12 and 13: Continue on the Manu River. Great views of
riverside birds, sunbathing caiman and the enormous
aquatic guinea pig, the capybara. Arrive at lodge deep
inside Manu in the afternoon. The lodge serves as the
base for next two days. Activities include: hikes through
virgin forest; exploration by catamaran of one of the
most beautiful lakes in the Manu basin, Lake Salvador;
five hour hike through
forest to Lake Otorongo and the 20 meter high observation
platform that overlooks the lake. Optional night hike
through the forest by torchlight or by moonlight to spot
caimans on the lake.
Day 14: Additional ecological hike through forest
surrounding Lake
Salvador. Continuing down the Madre de Dios River by
catamaran, to
Blanquillo, near the Macaw claylick.
Day 15: At dawn, head to claylick to watch amazing
spectacle of
hundreds of parakeets, parrots and macaws consuming clay.
Afternoon
spent visiting another of Manu´s beautiful oxbow lakes,
Cocha Kamungo.
Day 16: Short boat ride to Boca Manu airport for return
flight over
the rainforest and the Andes to Cusco by light aircraft.
Day 17: Train/bus tour through the Inca highlands to Puno and Lake
Titicaca
Day 18: Boat tour of Lake Titicaca’s floating islands and visit
indigenous people
Day 19: Tour Sillustani, an ancient Inca burial ground
overlooking Lake Umayo near Lake Titicaca
Day 20: Tour Taquile Island. Afternoon flight to Lima and late
evening flight to USA.
Day 21: Early morning arrival in Denver.
Tentative cost including round-trip airfare (Denver-Lima-Denver),
all in-country transport (incl. buses, trains, boats,
internal airfares), all entrance fees, room and board.
$ 2700.00
Not included: CMC tuition and Peru departure tax.
CMC Tuition: In-district residents: $ 41.00/credit
In-state residents: $ 69.00/credit
Out-of-state residents: $ 220.00/credit
Industrial Rate: $ 82.00/credit (maximum 3 credits/semester)
This program is available to anyone at least 17 years old
with a sense of adventure and a love of learning.
Past participants ranged in age from 17 to 71
and have been mostly teachers and students. If you are
