Instructing for the ORL Program

Instructing for the Outdoor Recreation Leadership Program at Colorado Mountain College is fun, rewarding, and, as the "industry" goes, pretty lucrative.

We are always on the lookout for folks with outstanding skills in backpacking, mountaineering, whitewater kayaking and rafting, ice climbing, rock climbing, kayak touring, telemark skiing, snow shoeing, canyoneering, or snow boarding.  Successful applicants will also have excellent leadership and  teaching skills as well as being good role models.

Responsibilities

Adjunct instructors are responsible for all aspects of teaching a college-level wilderness travel skills course including trip planning, syllabus development, instruction in and out of the classroom, evaluation of students performance, and reporting required documents to the CMC administration.

Qualifications

You should possess at least a current Wilderness First Responder certificate from a reputable provider, be in fairly good physical condition (a physical requirements sheet for ORL instructors may be found by clicking here), don't mind spending up to two weeks in the wilderness at a time teaching, traveling, and living with participants, and have a fairly high level of competency in at least one of the above adventure travel skill areas.

Compensation

Adjunct instructors receive compensation by the contact hour for the course instructed.  One credit courses usually run between 22.5 and 30 hours.  Two credit courses run between 52.5 and 60 credit hours.  Adjunct instructor pay rates vary based on experience in the activity and by education.
